Online tools for organizing

I admit it – I’m a gadget junkie. I like to mess around with gadgets and online tools just to see what they do.
Recently I have found several online sites that stand out for helping me stay organized.
For me, to be a winner, a site has to be user friendly, do something useful, easily accessible, and inexpensive (or no cost.)
You can check them out and see what you think.

Evernote.com
Evernote has changed the way I view the internet and take notes. It is a searchable note taking system that allows you to save items online if you choose. But it doesn’t just save text. It also saves a web page, a photo, a photo on a web page, and allows you to take free form notes as well. This is great in itself.
But it also allows you to tag your information so you can search for it again.
You can put your info into notebooks and browse the info visually!
Then it syncs up to your other computers and handheld devices so you can view your notes from anywhere.
Practical uses:
1. Clip recipes you may want to use – store in recipe notebook
2. Scan business cards – store in business card notebook for visual viewing
3. Mark web pages you want to come back to and give each a tag with the subject matter such as: decorating, crafts, parenting, etc.
4. make a notebook with organizing projects and progress. Add internet ideas, articles and photos. Add your own before and after photos.

And that’s just getting me started!! I bet you can think of hundreds more ways to use evernote.

The second new fangled online tool I love is google voice.
I’m a big google fan in the first place. This is just amazing for me though.
Google voice gives you one phone number and that number can ring anywhere, simultaneously.
So when someone calls my number, it rings on my business line and my cell phone. I could also have it ring on my home phone, a work number, etc.
I can pick up on any one of them.
I can also let it go to voice mail, which may be the best part.
Google records the voice mail AND turns it into text which you can read online, or have sent to your phone as text messages.
How is this organizing? Well, for me it’s time management. It saves me from having to call my voice mail for messages. And I can read my message, which is more sticky for me (means I remember it better if I read it.)
And it means I only need to tell people one number and it rings everywhere I need it.
I believe this is still by invitation only. I have 3 invitations to give away.
If you would like one, send me an email or leave a comment.

The 3rd online tool I am lovin’ on today is http://www.Doodle.com
It is one of many online schedulers for groups.
If you are thinking of planning a meeting and want to plan it when the most people are available, this online tool allows your invitees to easily tell you all the times they are free.
On the same note, Timebridge is another tool that is very similar. I have used it and like it just as much.

If you’re trying to schedule volunteers at different times, instead of find an agreed upon time, there are different tools for this such as http://www.volunteerspot.com and http://whentohelp.com

All of these tools for scheduling are huge time savers. It ends the countless round about emails. Everyone can see what everyone else is doing in one single location online.

What is your favorite online tool for organizing???

  3. I love Google Voice. There SMS feature really got me into it. I can send free text messages to Bangladesh, India, and USA. It saves me some good money on my texting plan from Verizon Wireless because I can utilize that to send now. I think Google always does a wonderful job of giving customers what they require and need. I have heard in the future they are mixing Voice with the Android. Plus they bought a new VoIP company which they will mix with the other two to give some quality features. I need to get me a Androind now haha.
